South Huntsville Living

Welcome To South Huntsville!

Art & Entertainment

"The basis on which good repute in any highly organized industrial community ultimately rests is pecuniary strength; and the means of showing pecuniary strength, and so of gaining or retaining a good name, are leisure and a conspicuous consumption of goods."

South Huntsville, Al Fresco!

Among the many outdoor activities available in south Huntsville is dining in the open air or, as it is known in the gastronomical lexicon – al fresco.

With four seasons, the city of Huntsville has a climate which is mild and pleasant for the majority of the year. Jones Valley in the springtime is blue skies, sunshine and flowering trees. During autumn, the hills put on a spectacular show of vibrant colors. Summer nights and mornings often feel just as spring-like as a May afternoon.

Al fresco dining calls to mind the open-air cafes on Paris’s Avenue de Champs Elyseé and the cafes in the piazzas of Rome and Venice. Here in south Huntsville, there are a multitude of eateries and desert shops where you can dine European style – al fresco – and enjoy the sights of the hills and valleys that surround you.

Below are just a few south Huntsville area establishments which offer al fresco dining:

Drakes, located in the Village on Whitesburg has become the premier gathering spot for young people in the city of Huntsville. The restaurant / bar offers open air dining and a vibrant atmosphere. Just steps away, Jason's Deli offers outdoor dining with a great family atmosphere. Yes, we can have it all!

The Mellow Mushroom, located on Cecil Ashburn in Jones Valley is your best option if you're looking for pizza and maybe a beer to go with it. The outdoor patio is a relaxed setting with views the nearby mountains. Just two buildings over, you might also choose to dine on the outside patio at Moe's Barbecue.

For a sandwich and dessert, check out Which Which and Yogurt Mountain. Each offers outdoor, cafe style tables with the best views in Huntsville.

5 Guys Burgers and Fries, Buffalo Wild Wings, and fine dining at Cafe Berlin, Brix, and Cafe Mezza Luna round out our locations for dining with an option for al fresco seating.

Whether it be a sunny spring morning, breezy fall afternoon or warm summer night, south Huntsville offers a bounty of options. No matter which location you choose, outdoor dining in south Huntsville is sure to please. Al fresco dining has grown beyond crowded city streets with hovering gray buildings and re-located to prime real estate for the senses!
